What this is
Most manuscripts do not need everything. A tight draft with a structural problem needs a developmental editor, not a comma hunt. A finished, well-shaped book needs a proofreader, not a rewrite. We tell you which one you are looking at before you pay for anything.
What’s included
- Developmental editing — structure, pacing, argument, character and arc
- Line editing — rhythm, clarity and voice at the sentence level
- Copy editing — grammar, consistency, style-sheet adherence (CMOS by default)
- Proofreading — the final read on formatted pages before print
- A written editorial report explaining every substantive change
- Tracked changes so you keep the final say on all of it
How it runs
01Sample edit
We edit a few pages free so you can see the hand before committing.
02Scope
We recommend the level of edit and quote against the real word count.
03The pass
Your editor works through the manuscript with tracked changes and margin notes.
04Review
You accept, reject or query. One round of follow-up questions is included.
Why it matters
A good editor makes the book more like itself. That is the whole job.
Ready when you are
One conversation is usually enough to tell you whether this is the right next step.
